The vet called me this morning with bad news. My kitty is quite sick, probably has a mass or many little masses. Whatever the diagnosis, the doctor was gently firm that I would have to put my baby to sleep. So, after 13 years together, tomorrow I will have to hold Ruby while she closes her eyes forever.
I found this beautiful poem that I think perfectly fits what Ruby would say to me if she could speak
THE LAST BATTLE
If it should be that I grow frail and weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this, the last battle, can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree,
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you,
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close,we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.
I don't know who wrote this, but it is beautiful and is making me feel a little better about my decision.

Kijiji Treasures!!!
I haven't been able to tackle a lot of projects lately - what with keeping the house spotless, having weekly open houses and looking after my poor, sick kitty. That doesn't mean that I haven't been stalking kijiji!!! I am going to make a little road trip on Thursday after work and pick up some awesome things. Hubby is working all weekend. Friday is my compressed day and Abby Sue is at school. I am going to be a decorating maniac this weekend!!!
I found this for FREE and am going to do it yellow and purple for Abby Sue's room.
I have been looking for a wonderful chair to redo for what seems like FOREVER. I finally found this beauty
I am over the moon about this piece. I am going to do it in some really funky colour and material. I am very excited about this one.
I have been wanting to do a sunburst mirror with the long bamboo pieces. I attempted one, but I kept burning my fingers with the glue and the pieces kept falling off. I hate to admit it, but I gave up. Then I found this
I am going to spray paint it a bright white (or maybe a funky green) and replace the clock with a mirror. I bought this new comforter for my bedroom
and I think the mirror would look awesome over the bed. The leaves will match the bed. I am doing the furniture bright white with glossy black tops. My lamps are a crisp white with zebra lampshades. I am so excited to see the whole thing come together.
I am bouncing in my seat, itching for Friday to get here so I can get some projects done. I feel like I haven't done anything in YEARS.
Hope everybody else has some projects lined up for the weekend. I can hardly wait to see them all! Pin It

Sad, Sad Times
I haven't posted in a while because we have been so busy getting ready for spring, trying to sell our house, and just generally doing family things. This post is a tribute to my sweet kitty, Ruby, who has been pretty sick for the past few days. She is going to the vet tomorrow, but I have a horrible feeling that she has reached the end of days. I am hoping that isn't the case, but I am preparing myself for the worst.
I got Ruby almost 13 years ago when I lived by myself in Mississippi. I had no family and my best friend had been deported back to Canada (long, long story). My friend, Kassie, took me to this trailer that was over run with cats. There was a little black one in the corner, not making a sound, just watching me with these huge green eyes. I knew right then and there that she was the one. I picked her up and just melted. I named her after my beloved Grandmother, Ruby, and took her to the car. The second the car started, all hell broke loose!!! She meowed all the way home and hasn't stopped since. She is a big, fat, unloveable, mean cat and I love her to death. My friend Kassie reminded of how Ruby used to pick my keys up like a dog would and hide them on me. What a character.
She has always been wonderful to Miss Abby Sue
She is absolutely HUGE. When I flew back from Mississippi, they had to use 2 tranquilizers to get her to sleep!! When I was putting her thru luggage, they thought she was a jaguar!
Now, she bites my hubby all of the time, especially when he is feeding her and isn't putting the food in the bowl fast enough. She also stands in front of John when he is watching tv and meows extremely loudly - demanding that he pay attention to her. She is like a cranky old fishwish caterwauling at her hubby!! She also answers when you talk to her. Ask her a question, and she will meow back, just like she is answering. Cats really are amazing creatures.
Ruby terrorizes poor Diego, but I think she secretly enjoys having him around. She hides behind corners and when he walks by, she jumps out and hisses at him. She sits on the coffee table and slaps him with her tail. He is not smart enough to leave her alone and she has whacked him quite a few times!! I will never forget the day he refused to quit bugging her. He gets right in front of her, but far enough away that she can't reach him, and then he barks. Well this time, she turned away and he got brave and moved closer. She turned back really fast and scared him. He tried to run and she bit his rearend!! Poor Diego jumped on my lap, pounding heart and all!! Ruby very casually went back to cleaning herself, totally ignoring the chaos she had caused.
I have been trying to talk to Abby Sue about Ruby maybe having to go to heaven, but she isn't quite old enough to grasp it. She has been having teary days and wanting to stay home instead of going to school, because she wants to stay with Ruby. Breaks my heart, but I think that sometimes you have to put your own wants aside and do what is best for your pet.
Saturday night, John, Abby Sue, Diego and I were snuggled on the couch watching tv. For the first time EVER Ruby jumped on the couch and snuggled too. Maybe she knows that her time with us is limited and was getting in a last goodbye. At least I will have that final, wonderful memory of when we were a family.
Fingers crossed that she will be ok. I always go on about my puppy, and poor Ruby gets pushed aside or forgotten. This was my way of letting her know how much she is loved. Pin It

Diego's 4th Birthday
No DIY projects today. It is my baby boy's 4th birthday. Miss Abby Sue woke up so excited today. Sang Happy Birthday to him, gave him a kiss and a hug and went crazy wanting to go buy him a birthday present. We went to Walmart and bought him a chicken and a cake. Had to wait 20 minutes to get the cake iced and the lady couldn't figure out how to spell his name. Then ABby Sue had to show EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN WALMART the cake. Diego was so excited when we got home that he almost peed on the floor. And, in case you are thoroughly confused, Diego is my puppy. He is my daughter's best friend and the sweetest little guy ever!!!

Coffee Table
I was planning on getting a whole lot of DIYing done these 3 days before my open house. Unfortunately, today I had to go and purchase and new bathroom counter and then my agent called and wants to show the house tomorrow. My husband is on nights and will be sleeping in the morning SOOOOOOO I have to get the house cleaned tonite. So much for any projects.
However, my daughter asked if she could have a friend over tonite. SCORE!!! They keep each other so entertained that I snuck in and redid this
My living room is SOOOOOOOOOO boring. It is hard to love your house while selling. You have to make it so bland and un-homey (is that a word). I rebelled (I constantly do that) and covered the coffee table. I used material that I am in love with and now the table looks great.
I need so funky lampshades and a sectional and I will be in heaven. Pin It

Mini Redo
About a month ago I bought this clock at goodwill
The clock didn't work and it was a boring colour. I had no idea what I was going to do with it. Then, yesterday, I found some really nice red/cranberry coloured spray paint at my new favorite dollar store. LIGHTBULB!!! I was going to makeover my clock!!
I absolutely adore this colour. It is warm and rich and it looks pretty good against my gold walls. Anyways, I am not a big clock person, but I love, love, love pictures. When we put our house on the market, we had to take down all of our pictures. SIGH. So, in a show of rebellion, I took one of my favorite pictures out and turned my clock into a picture frame.
I don't really love it on this table, but it will do until I can move and put it in a gorgeous spot, where it will be a centrepiece.
What do you guys think? Pin It

Projects in the Works
I went to 1/2 price Goodwill Friday last week and I was a little disappointed. Not really alot there that turned my crank and got my creative juices flowing. I did get a few things
I am not quite sure what I am going to do with the pedestal thingy. I might make it into a candy dish.
I am going to paint the tray white and then do the black/white checked thing in the middle. Use it as a tray/checkers game for my baby girl.
I am going to make Abby Sue a huge cork board for her room so that she discontinues hanging her artwork on every available door in the house.
I love the lamp. I think I might just clean it up and get a really nice shade to go with it. Still thinking that one thru.
Any ideas, let me know.
I am off this week for March break, so I should have some finished projects this week.
Happy DIYing my friends!! Pin It

MAKING LUNCHES FUN
My daughter is a very picky eater. Before she started Junior Kindergarten, she never ate sandwiches. She always had hot lunches at daycare. When she started school, I was freaking out, thinking she would starve. The kids get 2 breaks in which to eat, so I knew that she would have to start eating sandwiches. I googled fun ways to make her sandwiches interesting. I thought I would make her a couple of them and get her used to sandwiches. Little did I know she would start REQUESTING shapes. All I can say is thank the lord that winter came and she started taking warm food in a thermos. Here are some of my creations
I know, she is absolutely spoiled, but how can you say no to this face

Hall Mirror
I have been wanting to put something on the wall at the end of my hall (no, I am not Dr. Seuss) since I took down family pictures to sell this house. I made Miss Abby Sue a wonderful petal mirror for her room, so I decided to make a big white one for my hallway. I made the petals thinner than the one in Abbs' room and I just love it. Nobody that has seen it can tell that it is made from poster board. I think I have a new addiction - sorry footstools.
