So I have a new obsession - it is footstools!!! I know, that is weird, right? Well, Friday I was trolling over at my buddy's blog and I saw this honey bun
My mouth started to do the watering thing and I knew, knew, knew that I had to do another project. Thanks for the inspiration
(Sorry, tried to use her button, but for some reason, it wouldn't work - probaby something I am doing wrong - still, check out her awesome blog)
My daughter has a closet organizer and she can't reach the top rack. She has been using a plastic Diego stool that I bought at the dollar store. Well, Wednesday night as my husband and I were putting her to bed, I fell over the stool (who can see crap in the dark?) and broke the bottom of it. Yes, I hurt my leg, but apparently it was a YouTube moment for hubby, who thought it was the funniest thing EVER! Anyways, when I went to Good Will on Thursday (yes I go the day before 1/2 price Friday to scope out what I might want), I found a horrible little stool that had a god awful hunting dog print on it. It was dusty and horribly painted and ONLY $2.99!!!
I knew it would look great in my daughter's room and that she would also probably use it as a stage for her Hannah Montana concerts that she gives on a regular basis.
So, after deep thought (ok 2 seconds) I decided to throw caution to the wind and pay full price for it!!!
I brought it home and showed it to hubby, who nodded without looking and said it was nice. Why oh why do I even bother?
Today, it was rainy and cold, so it was another perfect day for projects. I pulled the material off the stool - and almost choked on the dust. My table was covered in god knows what by the time I took it off. I probably should have used a dust cover over my mouth. I didn't even want to think about where this stool had been. Now, on to the painting and recovering.
I always let Abby Sue pick out her own materials. She is 6 now and has her own tastes and it is her room, so she gets a say. Bless her heart, she picked out a wonderful leopard print that was on sale for $2 per metre. I ended up buying 4 metres because I know I will use it again. I had lots of spray paint lying around, thanks to the new dollar store that sells it for $1 each!! Abbs picked out a pretty yellow for the legs of the stool.
So, after spraying, stapling and admiring, here is the final product
It goes pretty well with her room - even though she has lots of other prints. Maybe I have a mini DIY in the making!!
Now for the kermit stool,
While I was at Fabricland (the only fabric store in town), I found a wonderful fun fur in a cow print. I took it up to the counter because there wasn't a price on it. The woman informed me that it was $17 per metre. I very sadly told her "never mind" because that is way too much to pay for cow print material - now matter how cute. The salesperson, who is my new crush, then asked me if it was in the clearance rack and if there was any more. I told her that what I had was the last piece. So, being the most wonderful, beautiful, fantastic sales clerk in the world, she gave me the whole 2 1/2 metres for.........drum roll please...... $5.00!!! How could I pass that up? I knew it would look awesome on Kermit. I also needed some "pop" in my bland basement rec room and I just knew I had hit the jackpot. What do you think???
I know my sisters will hate it and I am not sure of hubby's reaction. But my Abby Sue, Diego and I think it rocks!!!!!
