MY HEART WILL GO ON

I don't know why I love chairs with heart backs so much. Maybe it is because they are old-fashioned, yet funky at the same time. I haven't figured it out, but I do know that whenever I see a chair like this, I just have to buy it.

Case in point

I found this lovely at a new flea market called Reclaimed Treasures for only $20 beans. Abby Sue wants a big girl room and I wanted to make her a little reading area with a cute chair and footstool. I thought this would be perfect.

I brought it home and started pulling the material off. It was almost like a shower curtain. It was so old that what I thought was white was actually flowered, but so faded that the flowers could only be seen underneath

It took forever to get off and there was so much dust that it was quite disgusting. I finally got down to the bare bones and discovered that whoever had made the chair had made it all in one piece. The legs didn't even come off. It was like they whittled themselves a chair. I had no idea how the heck I was going to cover it when I couldn't even take it apart.

I had bought some wonderful material that was just so happy and fun and I really thought it would look gorgeous on the chair. I finished half of it and was told by my child that she didn't like it. My mom loved it. I loved it. But Abby Sue didn't like it. Thank the lord I hadn't done the whole chair or she would have been told to zip it and like it.

I thought the material suited the chair perfectly and really showed the heart detail of the back. SIGH. I love the material and it is going on Abby Sue's footstool. She is fine with that.

So, after taking the fun material off the chair, I asked Miss Picky what colour she wanted for the chair. She said yellow, so off the fabricland I went. I knew that I would have to get material that I could staple and that wouldn't necessarily show the staples. I found the perfect, brightest, softest yellow material. My sister Sheila was with me and HATED IT! My brother and mom made fun of it. I loved it. So did my mini me daughter.

Now, working with this big bird material was a nightmare!! Cutting it made a huge mess. Material floated through the air, stuck to my clothes, got up my nose, and made a disaster of the carpet. But, boy was it worth it.

The picture doesn't really show how bright the chair is. It is cozy and soft and Abby Sue loves it, as you can tell

I can hardly wait to get her room finished. It should be done within the next few weeks. I will keep you updated and tease you with little things that are happening before the big reveal.

What about you guys? Do you like the fun, happy material, or the bold, snuffy yellow?
