HOLY BUTTERFLIES!!

I like to decorate - I hate to paint. I am the first one to admit that when it comes to painting, I have absolutely zero patience. But I am also way too cheap to pay somebody $400 to paint a room that I can do my self. Case in point, Abby Sue's room. It is hard to tell from this picture, but the wall above Abby Sue's bed has a lot of holes in it.

We had hung pictures there and her cork board, so, while there weren't big chunks of drywall missing, there were a lot of pinprick holes that were quite visible, especially since the wall is now so bare.

Dollar store to the rescue. I found a sheet of these for $1.25

They are so pretty and have silver around the edges that make them actually glow when the light is turned down. I put them over top of all the holes. They add character to the walls and look great. Most of all, they cover all of the holes!

Abby Sue loves them and I love that I didn't have to putty and sand her walls. Cheap fix, but well worth it, wouldn't you say? Pin It

LET THE SUNSHINE IN

I had an ottoman in front of my couch that I refinished. It was ok, but never what I really wanted.

Meh. Blah. If you look under Diego's paw, you can see where I accidently sliced thru the top of the table with my exacto knife while making Abby Sue's light covers. Ooops. Time to check kijiji.

I saw an ad for 2 end tables and a coffee table for $45. I really am too cheap to pay that, but I called the lady and asked if I could get them. She lived close by and said I could come after work that day. Well, we got a major snow storm and I couldn't make it. Then I got busy and 2 weeks went by. I guess she really wanted to get rid of them, because the next thing I know, they are on kijiji again, at a reduced price of $30. I called (from a different phone so she wouldn't know it was me) and asked if she would take $20. We came to an agreement on $25 and I was there in a flash. Look at these beauties

The table was scratched, but needed to be sanded down anyways. I have been seeing yellow tables everywhere, but I knew I would have to convince John of that colour. I ended up going with a Martha Stewart colour called Sunshine. Boy, was it bright when I started painting

Too bright for my liking. Not to mention that I ran out of paint before I even started the top! Too cheap to buy more paint, I used a can of rustoleum yellow that I had left over from Abby Sue's artwork. I painted the top with the brighter yellow, then showed John the table (with sunglasses, of course). John, being a guy, said "ok" and went to the couch to wait Sports Desk. I started sanding.

I loved how the brown came thru and contrasted with the yellow. However, it was still way too bright for my liking. Off to Walmart to buy some walnut stain. Here's where it started to get beautiful.

I love it. I put 4 coats of varathane on it so it won't get ruined and put it in the living room.

What a nice, bright colour to add to my room. Next up, the end tables. I need new lamps too, but they are for another day - unless I get sidetracked by something else. Which is probably a sure bet.

Anybody else loving splashes of colour through the house?

KID'S TABLE - TAKE TU (TU)

Abby Sue's new comforter finally arrived and it was well worth the wait (thanks Auntie Lori for letting us ship to you for shipping to Canada). It is bright and cheery and goes very well with her new room

I had put a brass ORB painted table beside her reading chair, but with her new funky comforter, she required something a little more fashionable.

I brought up her tutu table from the downstairs playroom, but, sadly it was too big

It never gets used or seen and I get so sad thinking about the work I put into it. Sigh.

Today was half price Friday at goodwill and my compressed day off, so I got there right at opening and lined up with the rest of Orillia in the minus 20 degree weather. BRRRRRRR

Look what I got

With the sale, it only cost $2.02, and no HST (or 15% tax to you southerners). What a bargoon. Guess what I was going to use it for?

I painted the top yellow (some paint I had left over from my coffee table makeover -coming soon). I had pink tulle left over from the other tutu table (I didn't buy enough and couldn't get any more, so I went with purple), therefore I didn't have to buy any. Whew. Abby Sue was at school, John is on nights so he was sleeping, so Vicky got to decorate in peace!!!

I was going to buy some ribbon to go around the edge of the table, but then I decided to go outside the box and bought a pink feather boa from the dollar store. Kinda looks cute, wouldn't you say?

It took me a couple of hours to finish this table. In the meantime, I had to pick Miss Abbs up from school. She was thrilled about the table

Sorry, once she is on the Ipad, she doesn't pay attention to anything!!! She will have a cow later when she actually notices the new table.

I put it in the room and I love the difference it makes. Now this is what I call a nightstand.

Once I put her flower garden in, sew some new curtains, and paint her ceiling, I might be done. Anybody else love the tutu tables as much as I do?
