SEW MUCH HAPPINESS

My wonderful sister gave me a SEWING MACHINE!!!! That's right. I am going to learn how to sew.
I told her that I wanted this for Christmas

On Christmas, she handed me a bag full of red material, thread, a picture of this curtain and her old sewing machine!!! I am so excited. I can sew pillows, curtains, etc.

I am going to be a crazy sewing fiend! Pin It

NO MORE GRAY DAYS

When we had the house on the market, we spent $1700 painting the inside a neutral colour. Anybody that knows me knows that I hate boring and need colour. However, we can't afford or justify painting again after 4 months. Pops of colour are desperately needed all around my house. I am working on a few things to show you soon, however, tonite I was bored and decided to try something that I found on Pinterest.

These are my lovely, boring walls

While at the dollar store looking for scrapbook paper, I found this wallpaper, for $2 per roll

I liked how it was gray, but had a little bit of extra colour. I decided to put it on my light fixture covers. It was so easy and I loved how it turned out. Hubby likes it too. What do you think?

Here it is against my new curtains that John bought me for Christmas (more on the living room makeover later)

I asked this little monkey what she thought

She said it looked "fabulous". Such a small thing to do, but I think it made a big impact. Anybody else ever done this?

NO TIME TO DECORATE TODAY

I didn't get a lot done today. The first thing on Abby Sue's Santa list was this

That's right. Today was officially adopted a new kitty. Her name is Munchkin and she is the sweetest, nicest kitty.

Diego isn't smart enough to leave her alone, so he will be getting a few swats from some kitten claws. We are over the moon happy and excited to have a new member in our family.

STUFFIE ZOO

My daughter has WAAAAAAYYYYYYY too many stuffed animals. She knows every one of them by name and if I dare to throw one out, she will want it that day and know that it isn't around. So, after seeing a really cool pinterest pin, I decided to make Abby Sue her own personal zoo.

I went to Home Depot to buy wood and they gave me all of their scraps, cut them, and let me walk out with EVERYTHING I NEEDED FOR FREE. Gotta love when something is free.

Here is the crazy zoo at my house

MY HEART WILL GO ON

I don't know why I love chairs with heart backs so much. Maybe it is because they are old-fashioned, yet funky at the same time. I haven't figured it out, but I do know that whenever I see a chair like this, I just have to buy it.

Case in point

I found this lovely at a new flea market called Reclaimed Treasures for only $20 beans. Abby Sue wants a big girl room and I wanted to make her a little reading area with a cute chair and footstool. I thought this would be perfect.

I brought it home and started pulling the material off. It was almost like a shower curtain. It was so old that what I thought was white was actually flowered, but so faded that the flowers could only be seen underneath

It took forever to get off and there was so much dust that it was quite disgusting. I finally got down to the bare bones and discovered that whoever had made the chair had made it all in one piece. The legs didn't even come off. It was like they whittled themselves a chair. I had no idea how the heck I was going to cover it when I couldn't even take it apart.

I had bought some wonderful material that was just so happy and fun and I really thought it would look gorgeous on the chair. I finished half of it and was told by my child that she didn't like it. My mom loved it. I loved it. But Abby Sue didn't like it. Thank the lord I hadn't done the whole chair or she would have been told to zip it and like it.

I thought the material suited the chair perfectly and really showed the heart detail of the back. SIGH. I love the material and it is going on Abby Sue's footstool. She is fine with that.

So, after taking the fun material off the chair, I asked Miss Picky what colour she wanted for the chair. She said yellow, so off the fabricland I went. I knew that I would have to get material that I could staple and that wouldn't necessarily show the staples. I found the perfect, brightest, softest yellow material. My sister Sheila was with me and HATED IT! My brother and mom made fun of it. I loved it. So did my mini me daughter.

Now, working with this big bird material was a nightmare!! Cutting it made a huge mess. Material floated through the air, stuck to my clothes, got up my nose, and made a disaster of the carpet. But, boy was it worth it.

The picture doesn't really show how bright the chair is. It is cozy and soft and Abby Sue loves it, as you can tell

I can hardly wait to get her room finished. It should be done within the next few weeks. I will keep you updated and tease you with little things that are happening before the big reveal.

What about you guys? Do you like the fun, happy material, or the bold, snuffy yellow?
