TUTU MUCH WORK!!!

I showed Abby Sue a picture of Sassy Sanctuary's tutu table and she HAD TO HAVE ONE. So, being the wonderful, pushover mom that I am, I said I would make her one. She has a white table that her grandmother bought her years ago for her tea parties. It was nice, but boring.

I got some wonderful green fabric and replaced the top of the table.

I then bought some pink tulle and attempted the table.

As you can see, it didn't work out too well. You could still see the white thru the table and I couldn't buy anymore tulle, as the only fabric store in Orillia didn't have it in stock. Also, it was too difficult to work with a full piece of tulle.

No problem. Abbs decided she would rather have purple anyways. Such an easygoing, sweet child.

Not to make excuses, but being left handed can sometimes make even the simplest things difficult. So, back to the drawing board.

This time, I bought twice as much fabric. I cut the fabric into strips and stapled it closer together. I am quite pleased with the result.

I know most people use a round table for this, but I couldn't justify buying a table when we had one already available.

So, look below and see the finished product.

We just love it. It looks so quaint and charming, without being tacky. Love, love, love it!!
I do want to add a bow to it, I just have to find one already made (because I can't make them) or sucker somebody into making me one. Any blogs that have a tutorial would be appreciated.

FYI, this is what happens when Diego tries to help

UPDATE:

I attached a bow. Love it so much better

MOUTH TO MOUTH FOR ROADKILL

Wednesday was large item trash day here in the booming metropolis of Oro-Medonte. For you people who don't have that, it means that people can put anything (and I do mean anything) at the end of their driveway and the garbage men will pick it up and cart it off. This only happens once a year, so it is a pretty special day for cheap DIY enthusiasts like me.

I was driving home at lunch and out of the corner of my eye I saw a brown chair with god awful orange cushions. The garbage man pulled up just as I pulled over. I asked him to wait because I wanted to look at the chair. Well, once the cushions were ripped off (gently, as I didn't want to find out whether bed bugs actually exist), I was astounded to see a HUGE, rocking chair. At first I thought it was too big for me to take, but the wonderful garbage dude put it in the back of my van and off I went. I was sooooo excited. Phoned hubby to tell him the exciting news!! He, in his wonderful, supportive way, made appropriate noises. Of course, I knew he could care less, but, hey fake enthusiasm is better than none at all.

I was going to the paint the chair a wonderful, bright white, so that I could put it in my updated playroom/guest bedroom. However........while trolling blogs, I went on Young House Love and read about Sherry's passion for ORB paint. I could feel the pull of her love, but I was still stuck on the white.

Well, I went thru 2 cans of white paint on this beast. The paint kept soaking in because the wood was old pine. It was then I decided to break out of my comfort zone and attempt ORBing. Well, Sherry, you have done it. I am now an ORB lover. I actually think I might be an ORB slut. I could use it every day on everything single thing I own!!!!!

Anyways, back to my chair. After spraying it with 3 coats, I pulled it into the house. Man, that sucker is LARGE. Hubby had to carry it for me.

Now, to add a seat. I went to fabricland and found some really happy material that is SO NOT ME!! I think that is why I love it so much.

I measured the seat and bought some wood from Home Depot. Being very challenged with electric equipment, I got Home Depot to cut the wood. Bought the foam from Wallyworld, used my trusty stapler, and voila!!!

How much do you love my chair? Abbs thinks it needs a soft back, so tomorrow I will buy some wood and make a small back over the slats (pictures to follow)

It is now in Miss Abby's former playroom, ready to make somebody fall in love with my house during tomorrow's open house.

What a difference in her room!!

By the way, the art hanging over the wall was made by moi, courtesy of

And yes, to the right is Abby Sue's new tutu table. More on that in my next post.

Fingers crossed everybody. Sell this house!!

Ok, I just could not wait and finished the chair today!!

SOME PEOPLE HAVE NO IMAGINATION - PART ONE

As you all know, we have been attempting to sell our house for almost a year now. It is getting so frustrating and depressing. I know you are not supposed to take things personally, but it is hard to have a stiff upper lip when people are not just hating your house, but your decorating and DIY projects at well. We have a huge playroom downstairs for Abby Sue

We have had two people comment (one being an actual agent!!) that they didn't realize that it is a bedroom. Seriously? It has a huge closet, 3 bay windows and is 18 x 13!!!! So, since we are having an open house on Saturday, I have decided to clean up Missy Moo's toys and turn it into a bedroom. The walls are a deep red, which I know isn't everybody's cup of tea. BUT, since I don't have enough time to paint the room, I am going to attempt to minimize the red by adding a bunch of crisp, clean white accents. I bought a white duvet cover for the bed to make a big white splash against the red. I didn't want to spend the money on a dresser, so I kept her tea table down there and moved my wonderful table and mirror and lamp from the living room into this room. I also made a paint chip art picture that will look fabulous (more on that later).

Then, just as a I was struggling to figure out what else to put in there, I spotted a chair at the side of the road. It is gorgeous. Just wait until you see what I am going to do with it.

More coming tomorrow, as I labour furiously to have everything done by Saturday. As the Beastie Boys sing "No sleep 'til Brooklyn!!!" Pin It
